Troubleshoots, repairs and performs carpentry and trade related duties. Complies with the safety rules and guidelines of OSHA, Risk Management and the Environmental Health and Safety Office of Clemson University. Performs other duties as assigned.

50% – Essential – Carpentry: Evaluates, understands and applies blueprints to construction, remodeling, or repair projects. Operates wood shop equipment, including table saws, radial arm saws, hand saws, sanders, planers and drills. Assists with writing specs of replacements for windows, doors, door hardware and lock schedules. Purchases windows, doors and door hardware in routine maintenance situations. Operates lock mortise machines, hinge butt routers, cylindrical boring jigs and related tools in the remodeling of and repairing of doors, windows, floors, stairways and roofs. Designs and builds cabinets and desks. Repairs fine furniture. Builds/constructs metal and constructs metal and wood frame walls according to fire codes. Performs routine roof and gutter inspections and repairs. Laminates repair with a large variety of laminate materials, including fine veneers and Formica. Installs suspended ceiling systems and window glass. Constructs scaffolding in compliance with OSHA safety standards.

25% – Essential – Construction Maintenance: Performs paint, plaster, drywall, ceramic tile and other related duties involving the maintenance of buildings. Uses paint, plaster, drywall, ceramic tile and other related tools and equipment. Prepares and applies ceiling texture. Refinishes and finishes furniture and cabinets. Estimates and transports materials to and from the job site. Makes plaster and drywall repairs. Replaces and grouts bathroom tile. Applies epoxy resin sealant product over bathroom tile. Performs spraying duties using appropriate equipment for paints, stains, lacquers and varnishes. Performs base and finish coat procedures for plaster. Installs channel wire for ceiling and walls in preparation for plaster. Performs rough carpentry work when repairing plaster or drywall.

10% – Essential – Locks and Building Security Systems: Assists with Lock shop as needed. Repairs and installs various types of locking mechanisms, including panic exit devices, mortise and cylindrical locks and office furniture, such as desk and file cabinets. Coordinates work with other shops and departments in the installation of building security systems. Performs other duties as needed.

10% – Essential – Welding: Performs, repairs and welds materials such as handrails, metal steps and supports, and metal doors. Installs bollards and performs necessary welding.

5% – Essential – Call-Back and Compliance: Responds to 24-hour call-backs. Complies with the safety rules and guidelines of OSHA, Risk Management and the Environmental Health and Safety Office of Clemson University.

A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
